If the work still matters, but you don’t know where you went inside it… this space was made for you.

You’re Allowed to Need More

You’re Allowed to Need More

Posted on May 28, 2025

There’s a moment in clinical life—quiet but unmistakable—when you realize:
Coping is not the same thing as healing.

You’re showing up. You’re doing what needs to be done. Your charts are closed, your patients are grateful, and from the outside, everything looks steady.

But inside?

You’re bracing.

You’ve internalized a system that rewards suppression over presence, productivity over process. And somewhere along the way, the care you offered others became the care you stopped receiving yourself.

That realization—that you need more—is not a failure of resilience.

It’s a return to truth.

It’s your nervous system whispering, "I'm not fine with fine."

The Myth of “Good Enough”

We were trained to survive with less:

  • Less supervision
  • Less support
  • Less time
  • Less margin for our own humanity

And when we ask for more—more help, more space, more understanding—we’re often met with subtle judgment:
"Can’t you handle this?"
"Other providers are fine."
"You’re doing great!"

But being good at holding it together is not the same as being well.
There’s no trophy for tolerating what’s unsustainable.

What “More” Might Look Like

More doesn’t always mean quitting your job or moving to Bali.
Sometimes more looks like:

  • Saying no to patients who aren’t aligned
  • Letting a note be good enough instead of perfect
  • Taking an extra 5 minutes in silence after a heavy session
  • Reclaiming your own reflection between appointments

More might mean writing things down just to hear your own voice again.
More might mean realizing your intuition is a tool—not a liability.
More might be walking back into the room differently—because you finally chose to walk out of it with intention.

More isn’t always loud.
Sometimes, it’s sacred and quiet and only for you.

You’re Allowed.

Let this blog be your permission slip.

You’re allowed to need more space.
You’re allowed to build systems that sustain you.
You’re allowed to practice in a way that aligns with your nervous system, not the billing system.
You’re allowed to reconnect with the version of you who once believed that showing up fully was still possible.

And if you're reading this and thinking,
"But I should be fine..."

I’ll say it louder:

You’re allowed to need more.

You always have been.
